Strategy Explanation

This TH4 war layout centers the Town Hall inside a tight double-ring of walls, with the Clan Castle and Mortar tucked close for constant coverage. Two Cannons sit on the inner ring at opposite sides, cross-firing into every entry, while the Air Defense is placed near the core so it can’t be sniped early. Outside the walls, low-value buildings form a light trash ring to slow troops. Collectors are stacked on the right side and the two Elixir Storages are up on the left, acting as HP buffers that pull Giants and Barbarians around instead of straight to the core.

Traps are used to punish funnel attempts: a pair of Bombs sits just behind the northern approach, catching Wall Breakers or layered Archers once Giants crack the first section. Archer Towers cover the outer approaches from the bottom corners, overlapping the Air Defense to deter early Balloons. Overall, the base forces awkward pathing and buys time for the Mortar to splash down swarms.

Strengths

  • Centralized win condition: Town Hall, Mortar, and Clan Castle are hard to lure or snipe, ideal for war defense.
  • Anti-Giant pathing: Inner Cannons on opposite sides cause Giants to split, exposing them to Archer Tower focus and Mortar splash.

  • Time control: Spread outer buildings (builder huts on the right edge) increase the chance of time fails.

Trap and Building Tweaks

  • Move one Bomb to the south corner to catch split pushes.
  • If your war opponents favor Balloons, slide an Archer Tower a tile deeper to avoid early snipes.
  • Stagger a few outer buildings so Giants don’t get a clean line to a single wall segment.

Clan Castle Troops

Best fill: 1 Balloon + Archers. The Balloon hammers Giants that reach the core, while Archers stall and poke from range. If Balloon isn’t available, 10 Archers or mixed Archers/Goblin still force a poison-less TH4 attacker to waste troops.

How It Defends Common TH4 Attacks

  • Giants + Archers: Split pathing and Mortar splash punish stacked heals aren’t available at TH4.
  • GiBarch from one side: Northern Bombs and inner Cannons shred the first wave; CC Balloon cleans up.
  • Loons: Central AD requires at least two defenses down before a safe drop; overlapping Archer Towers finish weakened Balloons.

Upgrade Priorities

  1. Max Mortar and Air Defense
  2. Archer Towers, then Cannons
  3. Walls around the core
  4. Traps (Bombs) last
