The outside is not just decoration. Builder Huts, storages, collectors, and point defenses are spread to slow funneling and make troop movement less clean. If an attacker starts from the lower side, they still have to deal with the Monolith and heavy fire before reaching the Town Hall. If they start from the top or either flank, the base can pull troops sideways into lower-value areas while the core keeps firing.
