The important point is the air coverage: the Air Defenses are not sitting on the edge where a few Balloons or a quick funnel can remove them early. They are tucked deeper into the layout, forcing Dragons to spend time crossing storages, defenses, and compartments before they can reach the real value.
The outside buildings are spread around the base rather than packed tightly on one side. That matters at TH8 because many Dragon attackers rely on a simple funnel from two corners before sending the main group straight into the core.
