If a Clash of Clans base link does not copy, first identify where it stops: on the website, while opening the game, or inside the Layout Editor. Open the original layout link on the device where you play, check the active village and read any in-game message before choosing a layout slot. The checks below help narrow down the problem without replacing a layout you want to keep.
Start with the original layout link
A layout screenshot, a page address and a shared game link are different things. On a layout detail page, use its copy control to reach the shared layout. Supercell has demonstrated opening layouts in the editor through links on link.clashofclans.com. Its official layout-sharing example shows this process; the old example bases are not recommendations for current play.
- Open Clash of Clans and check that the village you intend to use is active.
- Return to the original layout page on that device and select its copy control.
- If your browser asks to open Clash of Clans, review the destination and continue to the game.
- Read the game's prompt. Check the proposed layout and destination before confirming any replacement.
These are troubleshooting checks, not a guarantee that every shared layout is available or compatible with your village.
The website opens, but the game does not
First check whether the copy control reaches the shared game link or merely opens another website page. If you arrived through an app's embedded browser, try opening the original page in your device's normal browser, then select the copy control again. This is a diagnostic step: it helps distinguish an app-to-browser handoff problem from a layout rejected inside the game.
Check that Clash of Clans itself opens normally on the same device. If you are browsing on a computer while playing on a phone, send the original layout page to that phone and retry there. Do not assume that a desktop browser opening successfully means the layout has been imported.
The game opens, but the layout is unavailable
Record the exact message shown by the game. Return to the original page and try its complete link again rather than a shortened or manually edited copy. If that layout continues to fail, request a new share link from its creator or choose another layout for your hall level.
Try one other layout intended for the same hall level as a comparison. If one opens and the other does not, include both page addresses when reporting the problem. If neither opens, that alone does not prove both links have expired: the device, account or game state may also need checking. We do not assign a universal expiry period to base links.
The wrong village or layout destination appears
Check the active account and the destination offered by the game before saving. A website category describes the collection's purpose; it does not replace the game's import checks. Browse a collection matching your own Town Hall, such as Town Hall 18 layouts, Town Hall 17 layouts or Town Hall 16 layouts.
For a war design, review the TH18 war collection and still confirm the destination in the editor. We checked three website copy-link destinations during our October 2026 content review and found both HV and WB identifiers among war-category examples. That was a link inspection, not a successful in-game import test.
Where is Edit Layout after the interface update?
Open the Build menu. Supercell's October 2026 interface guide places Edit Layout at the bottom right while that menu is open. It also places account switching under Profile → Settings. See Supercell's interface guide if an older tutorial shows buttons in different locations.
Questions about copying from search, videos and screenshots
How do I copy a base found on Google?
Open the original result and find its shared layout link or copy control. A search-result image is a preview; use the source page to find the corresponding link. Check the hall level and preview before continuing into the game.
How do I copy a base from YouTube?
Look for a layout link supplied by the video creator in the description or pinned comment. If there is no link, ask the creator for one. A link to the video itself does not identify a game layout for import.
Can I copy a base from a screenshot?
A screenshot alone is not a shared layout link. Ask the original creator for the link, or use the image as a reference when arranging your own base. Do not assume a picture shows every detail needed to reproduce the layout accurately.
Should I paste the link into an in-game browser?
The official example uses a link that opens the Layout Editor. Start from the shared link in your browser or message, then follow the game's prompt. This guide does not require an in-game URL field.
What to include in a problem report
- The layout page address and its layout number.
- Your Town Hall or Builder Hall level and intended village type.
- Your device and browser, plus whether you opened the page inside another app.
- The exact error text and whether the game opened.
- Whether another layout for the same hall level behaved differently.
Share only the details needed to reproduce the problem. An account password or Supercell ID login code is not needed to investigate a public layout link.
